Video Leaks Showing Alleged iPhone 5 Booting Up

MIC Gadget originally reported on the photos and video that showed up on Vgooo.com, claiming to show an iPhone boot up to a screen warning the device is not associated with a registered developer account. The video compares the white iPhone 4S and the new white iPhone 5, which features the same design indicated by numerous leaks. The only really questionable element is a fourth hole at the top of the device next to the camera. Also, the proximity sensor and camera have swapped positions as well, with the front facing camera now centered on the device.

Samsung Galaxy S III possibly revealed in leaked images

Newly leaked photos of what appear to be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III published by Gizmodo Brasil on Wednesday evening. Apparently taken by an iPad, the shots aren’t of the best quality, but they do potentially give us a sneak peak at the handset that Samsung is set to announce in the first week of May. Gizmodo Brasil’s source states that the model number of the phone is i9300, model number of the Galaxy S III — and the device pictured reportedly features a 12-megapixel camera. The Galaxy S III is expected to feature a 4.8-inch 1080p HD Super AMOLED display, a quad-core 1.5GHz Exynos processor, 4G LTE, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and an ultra-thin case made of ceramic, and Samsung will likely announce the new flagship smartphone during a press conference on May 3rd.

Samsung Galaxy S III to feature 4.8-inch display and ceramic back

Samsung still isn’t done trotting out new variants of the Galaxy S line, but the big one is coming. Samsung publicly stated that we wouldn’t see the Samsung Galaxy S III announced at Mobile World Congress this year, and one of the major reasons was an effort to shorten the gap between announcing the flagship smartphone and launching it around the world. This time around, we’ve heard from a trusted source that Samsung is going to launch the Samsung Galaxy S III in over 50 “markets or cities” simultaneously. The real news, however, is the fact that we’ll be seeing a supersized display (and you know how we feel about those) that will measure 4.8-inches. We weren’t told the type of display, though other rumors talked about something ridiculous like a Super AMOLED Plus HD screen. Also, instead of cheap, glossy plastic, we’re told the entire back of the smartphone will be ceramic — a pretty interesting choice of materials. Other previously rumored specs include a quad-core processor, Android 4.0, 4G LTE, great cameras and other competitive specifications.

Motorola's First Intel-Powered Ice Cream Sandwich Revealed

Intel had a strong showing at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, and the fabless chip maker’s message was crystal clear: ARM. The firm’s chips have dominated the personal computing space for ages, and Intel plans to remain a key player as the smartphone and tablet markets continue to heat up. Likely to be among the first in a long line of Intel-powered smartphones we’ll see launch in the coming years, an image and details surrounding an upcoming Intel-powered Motorola smartphone have leaked online. Pocketnow.com published the image, which depicts a somewhat slender Android smartphone running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The handset is said to feature an updated version of MotoBlur as well as an impressive new camera. The report also states that the sleek Motorola smartphone is expected to debut at Mobile World Congress later this month, however a quick chat with one of our sources suggests that an MWC debut is unlikely and we’ll instead see this Android phone unveiled in the coming months.

Nokia clarifies battery update on Lumia 800, promises audio / camera fixes soon

As you all have noticed the Nokia Lumia 800 isn’t free of issues since it’s launch back in November. Following the recent patch release and subsequent users complains about it not fixing some of the battery related issues, Audio and Camera quality, the company has released another statement today to set the record straight about what is actually going on. The good news is that Audio and Camera related issues are going to be taken care off in an upcoming updates. From my own experience on the camera front the only thing that has still not been fixed is the Auto-White balance and Auto-Iso settings (Auto-Focus in video mode and Photo color temperature were fixed by the latest update).

Nokia Lumia 910 with 12MP camera listed on Dutch site

Lumia 910 showing up on a Typhone.NL a Dutch retail site for smartphones. The phone is clearly marked as the 910 and low and behold even has a matching 12MP camera to match those rumored specs. Could be coincidence, could be a retail site drumming up some hits or it could very well be the first solid evidence that this bad boy is coming sooner than later. Everything else is there too: 16GB of storage, front facing camera, HSDPA (21 Mb/s) and that 4.3" screen, of course.

CES 2012: Lenovo S2 run Android, 5" screen, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor

Lenovo S2 is a 5″ Lenovo's phone/tablet, with the 5″ Lenovo has equipped is with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a fancy burnt orange color. Currently only for China we can hopefully expect the 5″ to head to other markets soon. Hopefully we’ll see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich come to the phone/tablet hybrid too.

Making sure to hit the sizes of most tablets they also have the 7″ and 10″ versions on the floor — although we are still tracking down the latter. The Lenovo S2 7″ tablet specs are slightly improved to a more reasonable 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 1280 x 800 resolution display. Powered by Android 3.2 Honeycomb we expect an Android 4.0 update to follow shortly.

Verizon denies blocking Google Wallet on Galaxy Nexus

Verizon has issued a statement today denying claims that it is intentionally blocking support for the Google Wallet mobile payment app on the upcoming Galaxy Nexus. The response comes after a Google spokesperson confirmed yesterday that Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus would not support the company’s NFC-based payment app, spurring rumors that rivalry from Verizon’s own NFC payment system was in play.

Google confirms Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus won’t support Google Wallet

Google Wallet isn’t going to work on anything besides the Nexus S 4G for the foreseeable future. Yes, that includes Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus, and very probably AT&T and T-Mobile versions, if they ever appear. Computer World broke the story, though I’d be wary of anything labelled “confirmed” from that particular source. Unfortunately, the news is not entirely unexpected.

iPhone 4 combusts spontaneously aboard Australian flight

An Apple iPhone spontaneously began smoking and emitting a red glow while aboard an airplane in Australia. Passengers aboard Regional Express flight ZL319 were welcomed to their destination in Sydney, Australia on Friday by a frightening ordeal. According to the airline, a passenger’s iPhone began “emitting a significant amount of dense smoke” shortly after the flight landed, and the smoke was accompanied by a red glow. A flight attendant extinguished the device and no passengers or airline staff were injured according to the airline. The phone in question appears to be an iPhone 4 (pictured above) as opposed to the new iPhone 4S model, and it has been collected by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau as part of its investigation. Regional Express’ full press release follows below.

HTC Ville image leaks, thinnest HTC device run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone

According to sources from PocketNow the HTC Ville will be the thinnest device yet from HTC and has some pretty impressive specs too. While we don’t have a quad-core like the recently leaked HTC Edge it should feature a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and a qHD resolution display. Not any qHD but an AMOLED panel too. Pair that with a 4.3″ screen and an 8 megapixel shooter on the rear it sounds like some of their more recent smartphones.

50% of all smartphones will be NFC enabled in 2-3 years

As Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Bada have supported NFC (near field communication) functions and Microsoft and Apple plan to make Windows Phone and iOS support NFC in 2012, the proportion of NFC-enabled smartphones will quickly increase from less than 10% currently to over 50% in two to three years, according to Taiwan-based smartphone makers.

Google now activates 500,000 Android devices each day

Google announced at its annual Google I/O conference last month that as of the beginning of May, the tech giant was activating 400,000 Android new devices each day. That amazing pace seemed almost impossible to keep up, but fast forward to Tuesday and Google’s Android boss shared a new stat. “There are now over 500,000 Android devices activated every day, and it’s growing at 4.4% w/w,” Andy Rubin posted from his Twitter account. Compared to the rest of the market, Android’s explosive global growth slowed recently. In the U.S., Android even lost share last quarter for the first time since 2009 according to IDC. Activations certainly aren’t slowing down though, and we expect Android to be the dominant mobile OS in terms of market share for years to come.

HTC EVO Shift 4G Gets Gingerbread 2.3 OTA

A new report is just coming in that the HTC EVO Shift 4G will also be receiving an OTA update on Monday June 20th, but this will be the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. All you have to do is go to Menu>Settings>System updates>HTC software Update and start the process. In addition to the Gingerbread update, you’ll get improved download management, and fixes for media streaming. If, for some reason, you want to wait for the update to be pushed to you, Sprint will start force-feeding it on Monday.
