Android as U.S.’s most popular smartphone operating system

Android has already assumed its position on top of the global smartphone totem pole, both comScore and Nielsen agree. In January 2011, Google Android accounted for 31.2% of the U.S. smartphone market, capturing the #1 spot in the rankings for the first time as the platform climbed from just 7.1% share a year ago. RIM followed with 30.4% to secure the #2 position, while Apple took the #3 spot with 24.7% share.

Dell 2011 Roadmap several smartphones, tablets

An alleged internal product roadmap has leaked, and it appears to reveal Dell’s complete smartphone and tablet lines for 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, including three smartphones and six tablets.

According to the leaked slides, in September we should be seeing the Dell Hancock, a dual-core and dual-camera beast running (wait for it) Ice Cream on a 4 inch qHD 960x640 display with an 8mp rear camera and 1.3mp front camera. That rear camera shoots 1080p video, by the by.

Not to be outdone, the Dell Millenium follows in Q4 with a 4.3 inch screen, qHD 960x540 resolution,  and DLNA support on top of dual-core Ice Cream goodness. Another 8mp shooter (with 1080p video) appears on the back of this with a VGA front camera.

The HTC HDD features a 4.8-inch beast of a device with an unusual 870 x 480 AMOLED display — unusual, that is, until you realize that the extra 70 vertical pixels are reserved for a row of virtual softkeys that change depending on the application.
HTC HDD concept phone also includes 10MB camera with dual LED-flash and the ability to record HD-video with a resolution of 1080p, HDMI, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and 4G-support networks. Voim (seeing in Korean) is a smartphone concept for the blind that includes functions to make communication easier. It features route navigation, word recognition and object identification, which are displayed as braille on a silicon screen or transmitted as audio cues via the detachable bluetooth headset. Although smartphone applications & braille cell phones do exists, a full-fledged concept like this is a ways away.

This is the Nokia Kinetic, it's the painstaking work of British designer Jeremy Innes-Hopkins, and as far as he's concerned, it's the future of Nokia mobile phones. Jeremy tells that the top half of the actual prototype is just 8mm thick, while the bottom is 18mm, and he notes that the base also conveniently doubles as a more camera-like grip for taking photos.
