Samsung Galaxy S III possibly revealed in leaked images


Newly leaked photos of what appear to be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III published by Gizmodo Brasil on Wednesday evening. Apparently taken by an iPad, the shots aren’t of the best quality, but they do potentially give us a sneak peak at the handset that Samsung is set to announce in the first week of May. Gizmodo Brasil’s source states that the model number of the phone is i9300, model number of the Galaxy S III — and the device pictured reportedly features a 12-megapixel camera. The Galaxy S III is expected to feature a 4.8-inch 1080p HD Super AMOLED display, a quad-core 1.5GHz Exynos processor, 4G LTE, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and an ultra-thin case made of ceramic, and Samsung will likely announce the new flagship smartphone during a press conference on May 3rd.

Carrier IQ: Wikileaks founder says all smartphones can be hacked with ease


During a recent speech to delivered at the City University in London, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said that most smartphones can be hacked remotely with ease. “Who here has an iPhone? Who here has a BlackBerry? Who here uses Gmail? Well, you’re all screwed,” Assange said during his talk, which followed the release of 287 documents related to mass surveillance. Assange explained to the crowd that more than 150 private organizations in 25 countries can easily track phones and intercept messages, browsing history, email accounts, phone calls and more remotely, ZDNET said. Several organizations are even capable of sending fake text messages from a user’s phone, Assange said.

Smartphones still at only 27% of global market share

Market research firm VisionMobile has released a report, revealing that the worldwide mobile phone market is still dominated by feature phones. Despite all the craze around the latest iPhone or Android device and the spike in smartphone shipments, their global penetration has only reached 27 percent. 

50% of all smartphones will be NFC enabled in 2-3 years


As Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Bada have supported NFC (near field communication) functions and Microsoft and Apple plan to make Windows Phone and iOS support NFC in 2012, the proportion of NFC-enabled smartphones will quickly increase from less than 10% currently to over 50% in two to three years, according to Taiwan-based smartphone makers.

China become world’s largest smartphone market


China has overtaken the United States as the world’s top smartphone market by volume according to new data released on Wednesday. Market research firm Strategy Analytics found that a record 23.9 million smartphones were shipped in China during the third quarter, representing sequential growth of 58%. In the U.S., smartphone shipments fell to 23.3 million units, a 7% dip compared to the second quarter. “China’s rapid growth has been driven by an increasing availability of smartphones in retail channels, aggressive subsidizing by operators of high-end models like the Apple iPhone, and an emerging wave of low-cost Android models from local Chinese brands such as ZTE,” said Tom Kang, Director at Strategy Analytics. ”Nokia currently leads China’s smartphone market with 28 percent share, while HTC heads the United States smartphone market with 24 percent share.” The firm’s report also notes that the U.S. is still the top smartphone market by revenue.

Dell 2011 Roadmap several smartphones, tablets


An alleged internal product roadmap has leaked, and it appears to reveal Dell’s complete smartphone and tablet lines for 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, including three smartphones and six tablets.

According to the leaked slides, in September we should be seeing the Dell Hancock, a dual-core and dual-camera beast running (wait for it) Ice Cream on a 4 inch qHD 960x640 display with an 8mp rear camera and 1.3mp front camera. That rear camera shoots 1080p video, by the by.
Not to be outdone, the Dell Millenium follows in Q4 with a 4.3 inch screen, qHD 960x540 resolution,  and DLNA support on top of dual-core Ice Cream goodness. Another 8mp shooter (with 1080p video) appears on the back of this with a VGA front camera.

ViewSonic announces ViewPad 4 smartphone, Specs, Video Hand on


As promised, ViewSonic has unveiled its latest Android device, the 4.1-inch ViewSonic ViewPad 4. Joining the ViewPad 7 and ViewPad 10 tablets, the ViewPad 4 is an Android-powered tablet with cellular voice and data capabilities. ViewPad 4 runs Qualcomm’s 1GHz MSM8255 processor with a 5-megapixel autofocus camera capable of 720p HD video recording, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1. ViewSonic will launch the ViewPad 4 in mid-2011 and pricing will be set by carrier partners, which have not yet been named.

Huawei IDEOS X5 Android Picture Review, Specs


Huawei Device has officially announced entrance of the US smartphone market today by unveiling the the IDEOS X5 Android smartphone. The Huawei IDEOS X5 runs on MSM 7230 CPU with Android 2.2 Froyo, and it has a 3.8" capacitive touch screen, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording and playback, 4GB storage, and WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, microSD card slot and GPS.

The Huawei IDEOS X5 is a quad band GSM phone with WCDMA 900/2100 MHz HSDPA 7.2Mbps. The IDEOS X5 has the "Starwars" style menu UI and features SWYPE input. Built-in applications have like the camera has customized menus and UI that seem intuitive. 3D gaming feels fast, and so does web browsing.

HTC HDD Concept Mobile, run Android/Windows Phone 7, 10MP camera, 1.5Ghz Snapdragon


The renowned designer Antoine Brieux has developed a new concept of HTC HDD. The HTC HDD features a 4.8-inch beast of a device with an unusual 870 x 480 AMOLED display — unusual, that is, until you realize that the extra 70 vertical pixels are reserved for a row of virtual softkeys that change depending on the application.
HTC HDD concept phone also includes 10MB camera with dual LED-flash and the ability to record HD-video with a resolution of 1080p, HDMI, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and 4G-support networks. HTC HDD can work on the basis of Android 2.2 or Windows Phone 7. Or even switch between them.

Voim Smartphone Concept for the Visually Impaired


Voim (seeing in Korean) is a smartphone concept for the blind that includes functions to make communication easier. It features route navigation, word recognition and object identification, which are displayed as braille on a silicon screen or transmitted as audio cues via the detachable bluetooth headset. Although smartphone applications & braille cell phones do exists, a full-fledged concept like this is a ways away.
