Top 10 backup software 2010

In the Information Age, we can’t go a day without needing to use a computer. As a result, a lot of important information is stored on our machines. Computers are prone to failure as much as any other type of electronics. And when they do, the results can be catastrophic.

Whether you’re a small business or an individual, backing up your files is an important exercise. The smallest thing could bring everything crashing to the ground, so you have to be prepared in case something happens. If your system stays safe, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing you would be prepared in the event of a collapse.
The data each person stores on their computer is different, so you need to choose the data backup software that meets your specific needs. This process can be a difficult and confusing. We are here to help make your experience a little easier.

1.DT Utilities PC Backup
DT Utilities PC Backup is one of few programs that will do a full image backup. PC Backup by Data Transfer is excellent data backup software with a wide range of features. You can even backup all your Windows Operating System settings and preferences. This option saves you time if you ever need to do a system restore.

Version 11 comes with a free 10 GB online backup trial account, Amazon S3 (an integrated online storage service) and FTP functionality.  Now users have an option to choose from Simple or Advanced Mode.  They implemented a One-Click Backup feature to make the process easier.  Plus, they improved the speed and performance of the program.  Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 users won't have to wait to use this program any longer because it's now compatible with both operating systems.  Users also have the advantage of increased disaster recovery hardware compatibility.

Standout Features

    * Image Backup
    * Backup to Tape
    * Virus Scanning
    * Windows 7 Support
2.NovaBACKUP
When you look at NovaBACKUP, you will see that this data backup software bears a striking resemblance to DT Utilities PC Backup.  However, Novastor, the manufacturer of this product, did what they could to make it their own.  It's the same way with cars.  There are millions of different models, but all are hard shells on top of four wheels.  When it comes right down to it, if you see that someone has perfected something you're trying to be great at, you don't go a separate direction, try it differently and think you're going to succeed that way.  It just doesn't work.  You take what one group polished and make it your own.  And because of that approach, we're given this excellent data backup software.

Standout Features

    * Feature Set
    * Ease of Use
    * User-Friendly Interface

3.Genie Backup Manager

For data backup, we recommend Genie Backup Manager by Genie-Soft. This data backup software is a powerful, versatile backup tool capable of just about any backup task you can dream up. This program has more custom backup options available than most of the other backup software packages we reviewed.

The program does require some basic technical experience to maneuver quickly through its navigation and custom installs.

Standout Features

    * Backup with and without compression
    * Security options
    * Normal, incremental, differential and mirror backups

4.Acronis True Image
Backup and restore your entire PC or just selected applications and files with Acronis True Image. Acronis’ current version of this data backup software provides backup for individual email, music, videos and photo file types. You can burn your backups to CDs and then erase them after your system is restored. You can search for specific backup files similar to searching in Windows Explorer and for additional security, you can use your FTP program to safely load your backup copies to your server or hosted server.

Standout Features

    * File Backup
    * Disk Imaging
    * Try&Decide™
    * Acronis Startup Recovery Manager
    * Privacy Tools

5.NTI Backup Now
NTI Backup Now from NTI Corporation is data backup software that breaks the process of backing up and restoring files down into a science.  Backing up and restoring files is reduced to a three step process of choosing what you want to backup, where you want it to be backed up and when and how do you want your filed to be backed up.  Such a complex task couldn't be made any easier.

Standout Features

    * Informative Utilities
    * Easy Three Step Processes
    * Migrate Feature (To Relocate Your Backup Files)

6.Acronis Backup & Recovery
Acronis Backup & Recovery from Acronis, Inc. is a perfect complement to the other product they have in this category, Acronis True Image.  You will need at least some prior knowledge of data backup software to master this program.  Don't let this scare you away though.  Most users can get the job done without a problem.  It just requires a little extra effort to get this going.  They offer it under their line of business software, so it's perfect for your workplace.  Extensive home networks could benefit from it as well.  If you have a large amount of computers holding important data, this program will do the job for you.  This versatile program will get the job done no matter the situation.

An advanced version of the product is available with many more features.

Standout Features

    * Flexible, Mobile Store
    * Acronis Advantage Support and Maintenance Program
    * Intuitive User Interface
    * Comprehensive Recovery Options
    * Simplified System Migration

7.Norton Ghost
Norton Ghost by Symantec is a complete system backup tool, not just a data backup tool. This data backup software is one of the few programs we reviewed that makes full image backup. Symantec's Norton Ghost does an excellent job and allows you to customize a partial backup—by backing up individual files and folders.  Symantec is a company known for computer security and system utility products that have become industry standards.  This doesn't necessarily mean this program is going to be excellent because it comes from this company, but it helps for a product to come from a company that has a good track record is helpful.

Standout Features

    * Cold Imaging
    * Advanced Compression and Encryption
    * Symantec Threatcon Integration

8.PowerBackup
PowerBackup from CyberLink is data backup software that turns the task of backing up and restoring files into a four step process.  It's as easy as choosing the files you want to backup, where you want them to go and the backup method you want to use.  The fourth step generates a summary of the previous three steps in an easy to read format. We would like it if they added an option to burn files onto a disc or some other kind of removable media.  But we were satisfied with this high-functioning, easy to use program.

Standout Features

    * Four step backing up and restoring process
    * Scheduler

9.TurboBackup
TurboBackup by FileStream Inc. is data backup software that has a fine set of features, including the ability to backup all of your Windows Operating System settings and preferences.

TurboBackup includes compatibility with a variety of new technologies, including Blu-ray and HD DVD, iTunes, BlackBerry, and USB Flash Drives. Another nice feature is the Prepare Backup feature that allows the user to get a good estimate of how much data will be backed up and how much disc space will be needed.

Standout Features

    * Easy to Use Interface
    * Detailing Logging and Reporting Features

10.Dmailer Backup
Dmailer Backup from Dmailer is good data backup software, but it's difficult to determine what it can actually accomplish.  Browsing through the menus helps.  They don't come right out and say what the program does and doesn't do.  It's a good program once you're able to determine its capabilities.

Standout Features

    * Compatible with both Macs and PCs
    * One-Click Data Restore
    * Continuously Backup Your Files with Live Backup
