A report shared by Sina (via the Beijing Times) states that Apple offered 100 million yuan ($16 million) for rights to the mark in China but cash-strapped Proview would not agree terms. Proview is thought to be looking for at least $400 million in order to appease its creditors, eight of which are Chinese banks.

Old Apple Smart Covers Don't Work With New iPad

The Smart Cover, unveiled concurrently with the iPad 2 in 2011, is a thin case that snaps magnetically to the iPad's side and covers the iPad's display without hiding its back. When the Smart Cover is over the screen, the iPad's display automatically goes dark; when the Smart Cover is removed, the display turns back on. Now, on the day that Apple was awarded a patent for this technology, some iPad 3 owners, like Chris Taylor of Mashable, as well as multiple posters on the Apple Discussion Forums, are reporting that their older Smart Covers cannot shut off the display nor illuminate it on their new iPads.

Apple Has Sold 3 Million New iPads After Three days

Apple today announced it has sold three million new iPad since its launch on Friday, March 16. This is a feat even for Apple, as it breaks the record for iPads sold and of course shatters any records any other tablet PC devices have had in the past as well. The first iPad sold somewhere around 300,000 units in its first weekend of sales and 3 million after 80 days.

Kindle for iOS updated iPad's Retina Display Support

Amazon updated Kindle app for iOS to Kindle 3.0, this update adds a number of improvements, including a new eBook library design, cloud view and support for the new iPad’s Retina Display. The update is available now for free in the App Store.

Walmart to begin selling new iPad at 12:01AM tomorrow

Walmart on Thursday announced that while Apple Stores won’t open until 8:00 a.m. local time to hawk what little launch-day inventory they manage to obtain, Walmart stores across the country will begin selling new iPads eight hours earlier at 12:01 a.m. Stock is likely to be extremely limited if history has taught us anything, but heading over to your local Walmart at midnight is definitely better than the alternative. Walmart only mentioned having stock of Apple’s Wi-Fi-only iPad models, which start at $499. Of course, there's no guarantees that you'll get one if you show up -- Walmart says it only has a "limited supply.

Apple’s new iPad have 1GB of RAM, 1Ghz CPU speed

Tinhte.vn ran a Geekbench benchmark to test Apple's new iPad, the test confirmed that Apple’s new tablet has 1GB of RAM and an ARMv7 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, the same speed as the iPad 2. The new iPad earned an overall Geekbench score of 756, similar to its predecessor, with its strongest results coming from the “Floating Point” and “Memory” tests, which were 915 and 815 respectfully. It should be noted, however, that the Geekbench test merely tests the CPU and does not examine the device’s graphics capabilities. Apple’s A5X chip features a quad-core GPU, which Apple claims is four times more powerful than NVIDIA’s Tegra 3.

Adobe announced Photoshop Touch for iPad $9,99

Adobe on Monday announced the latest addition to its iOS software lineup. The company’s Photoshop Touch app for the iPad hit Apple’s iOS App Store a little early over the weekend before being pulled, but now Adobe’s highly anticipated image editing software is back for good. While the iPad version of the app isn’t nearly as robust as Photoshop for Windows and OS X, Photoshop Touch does feature a number of advanced capabilities similar to those found in Adobe’s desktop software, including layer support, a variety of editing tools and even the ability to extract objects from within an image. ”People will be amazed with what they can create on the iPad using Photoshop Touch,” David Wadhwani, SVP of Adobe’s Digital Media Business Unit, said in a statement. “Photoshop Touch combines the magic of Photoshop and its core features with the convenience of a tablet, bringing image-editing power to the fingertips of millions of people.” Photoshop Touch for the iPad is available in Apple’s App Store immediately for $9.99.

Chinese firm looks to block iPad sales across the globe

On Monday, Chinese officials seized 45 iPads in response to a trademark complaint from Proview International, the owner of the “iPad” name in China. Proview has now asked the Chinese government to block the import and export of the popular tablet, reports Bloomberg. “We are applying to customs to stop any trademark- infringing products from imports to China and also for exports,” said Roger Xie, a lawyer representing Proview. “Apple wants to postpone and continue infringement of the iPad in China.” Apple maintains that it has purchased rights to the iPad name in 10 countries from Proview, including in China. “Proview refuses to honor their agreement with Apple in China,” said Carolyn Wu, Apple’s Beijing-based spokeswoman. “Our case is still pending in mainland China.” The iPad is manufactured by Foxconn in Brazil and in China, so an export ban on the popular tablet would have significant ramifications for Apple.

iOS 5 already jailbroken using Limera1n

Everyone’s favorite muscle-bound nerd brought iOS fans great news on Tuesday: iOS 5 has already been jailbroken. The Dev Team’s “MuscleNerd” posted on Twitter that he has successfully jailbroken Apple’s iOS 5 software using Limera1n. Right now his jailbreak is tethered, meaning the device must be connected to a computer each time it is booted, but this version of the jailbreak will never reach consumers so it doesn’t really matter. MuscleNerd says the exploit used to jailbreak the iOS 5 beta will still work on the final release version, so iOS users can sit pretty knowing the latest version of the operating system will likely be jailbroken immediately following its release this fall.

Kingston Wi-Drive Offers Wireless iPad Storage Expansion

Dozens of companies have built entire businesses supplying accessories to the iPod and iPhone. With the iPad, storage vendors are trying to get a piece of the pie by addressing the inherent storage limitations of the platform. Without an SD card slot, your iPad is stuck with however much storage you buy it with. Upgrading isn't possible and higher capacity models are sold at a pretty steep premium. Seagate and now Kingston are offering 802.11 enabled, battery powered external storage devices to use with the iPad or any device with a web browser (iOS or not).

Direct Download iOS 4.3.3 with “Bug Fix” for Location Tracking

Apple was getting ready to release iOS 4.3.3 to make it possible to clear your cache of location tracking, and to turn off the tracking completely. Now iOS 4.3.3 is available via iTunes for AT&T’s iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPads, and the fourth-gen iPod touch. There is a separate update, iOS 4.2.8, for Verizon’s iPhone. iOS 4.3.3 reduces the size of the location database cache, and stops backing up the cache to iTunes when your device is connected to a computer. It also deletes the cache completely when Location Services are turned off.

Apple field-testing iOS 5 with App Store applications?

App Store developer FutureTap just revealed that they have received their first crash report from an iOS 5 device. This means that Apple is currently field-testing their next-generation mobile operating system that runs on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with applications from the iOS App Store. The application apparently crashed in iOS 5 due to the MKUserLocationBreadCrumb. Developer Will Strafach (Chronic) let us know that this API relates to the iOS maps and location functionality.
Just received the first iOS 5.0 crash report. MKUserLocationBreadCrumb sounds interesting.
This could possibly mean that Apple changed up some map and location APIs in iOS 5, causing issues with map-based applications built for current versions of iOS 4. iOS 5 is expected to take on some new cloud-based features and will be officially unveiled at Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference in early June. Apple is expected to release iOS 5 in September alongside the fifth-generation iPhone.
