webOS tablet show of new interface

We have seen webOS interface on the Palm range Pre and Pixi. However, these devices are smartphones with small screens. How webOS will work on HP's Opal and Topaz tablets as well as future touch-only smartphones. The interface on a larger screen will now be split into panels depending on the screen size of the device. A smartphone would only see a single screen, PreCentral found, but larger tablets would see two or three panels, such as a list of messages side-by-side with the message bodies.

Similar to the iPad, apps would now have pop-over menus depending on the context and would have a drag handle to help move the pop-up away to show the screen. Apps could now also have tabs instead of having to open wholly separate app cards. Google Maps would finally get a lift through the addition of location bookmarking and possibly other upgrades.

On-screen gestures would get more complicated with double-taps, tap-and-drags and two-finger taps. The keyboard would follow an Apple-like pattern, but it would move many of the controls to trigger the keyboard or special characters out of the main keyboard and into a separate section.

The interface should make its first public appearance at the February 9 webOS event and should first appear on the 9.7-inch Topaz tablet but could see some elements show on smartphones arriving at the same event.
